To promote, develop and encourage the sport of gymnastics and other athletic activities for the physical, competetive and social well-being of the members of the society and of the North Okanagan community as a whole. |
North Valley Gymnastics Society is non-profit organization (1993) providing recreational gymnastics classes for children ages 3 to 12 years.
Programs
At present we teach gymnastics at the Vernon Rec Center and Armstrong Elementary School.
The training includes floor exercises, beam, bar and vault. These classes are recreational and perfect for beginners. Approximately 35% are boys.
The gymnastics calendar is divided into winter (Dec-Mar), spring (Apr-Jun) and fall (Sep-Dec) semesters. We do not have summer programs. Fall classes tend to fill up so it is prudent to book early.
The exact dates and times are not always the same as we are at the mercy of facility managers. The Armstrong program is administered by Armstrong Parks and Rec. We post the upcoming schedule on the web as soon as it is available.
We follow the Rainbow program where kids progress through the colors of the rainbow, earn badges as they master requisite skills and develop strength and coordination.
Under the direction of head coach Kathy Stevens, our coaches follow the Rainbow program to help the kids progress. Each color in the rainbow has specific skill requirements. Each child To provide a consistent teaching methodology and help the children progress in an orderly manner. When a student has mastered all the requisite skills in a color, they are awarded a badge and start on the next level. Each child is encouraged to progress at a pace that meets their personal enthusiasm and physical ability. Click here for Rainbow program details.
